The Senior Leadership Conference (SLC) features more networking activities than any other Alliance for Strong Families and Communities conference. Make connections and build enduring professional relationships by leveraging formal and informal opportunities.

Maximize Your Networking Opportunities

Long-lasting connections can be made when you least expect it. Take advantage of these little moments between formal networking activities:

Conference Registration Desk

Introduce yourself to others while waiting in line to pass the time and meet someone new right away. Commiserate about your travel, rave about the weather, or compare notes on the workshops you plan to attend.

First-Time Attendee or 50th Anniversary Reception

Plan to mix and mingle at these receptions. Don’t be a wallflower, work the room! We’ve asked everyone to wear something with their organization's logo to serve as a conversation starter. Do you have your 30-second elevator speech ready?

You can't meet new people if you sit with those you already know. Find an open chair, and start the conversation by asking if you can join the table. Have a seat, introduce yourself, and start chatting.

Introduce yourself to the people sitting next to you. Since you’re all at the same session, you automatically have a common interest.

Introduce yourself to the person in front of you while you fix your cup of coffee.

Remember to wear your conference name badge, which identifies you as part of the SLC group. Starting conversations is easy, as everyone is having a shared experience.

First-Time Attendee Reception

Saturday, Feb. 24 from 5-6 p.m.

All first-time SLC attendees are invited by the conference planning committee to this special reception. Meet the committee, establish valuable professional contacts, and enjoy light hors d'oeuvres. We ask that returning attendees not participate in this reception to give those joining us for the first time an intimate networking experience.

50th Anniversary Reception

Saturday, Feb. 24 from 6-7 p.m.

Celebrate SLC's 50-year history, mingle with conference attendees, and make new connections while enjoying some light refreshments. It’s the perfect way to unwind from your travels and kick off the conference. We encourage everyone to wear their agency apparel (shirt, hat, jacket, lapel pin, etc.) to both of our opening night receptions. This will be a great way to see which organizations are represented at the conference and be a good conversation starter.

Mix & Mingle Happy Hour

Sunday, Feb. 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Join your colleagues at the hotel bar for some informal networking.

Dine Around

Sunday, Feb. 25 at 6:45 p.m.

Don’t eat alone! Enjoy a great meal, gather with colleagues, and form new friendships at this networking opportunity. When you arrive, see the conference registration desk to sign up.

Networking Activity: Cook New Orleans

Monday, Feb. 26 from 1:30-4 p.m.
The study tour is also at this time.
Cost: $65

For this cullinary adventure into New Orleans culture and history, we’ll walk to the New Orleans School of Cooking, about a half mile from our hotel. We’ll be met by a New Orleans chef and cocktail connoisseur who will first lead us in making one of New Orleans most famous drinks, the hurricane. While the group enjoys beverages including the cocktails, iced tea, lemonade, and local brew Abita Amber, the chef will create a few dishes, sharing the fun, food, and folklore of Creole and Cajun cooking. During the cooking demonstration, participants will learn how to make, and get to taste, New Orleans classics gumbo and bananas Foster.

Looking for a gift to take home? Their Louisiana General Store has all the Louisiana items you could possibly need.

Register soon because this activity is limited to 30 participants.
