Now More than Ever, We Must Come Together and Demonstrate the Very Best of our Sector!

Yesterday’s election is another turn of the dial on the pace of rapid and significant change in the world.

I know many of us are wondering what this will mean for the children, adults, and families we serve, and for our organizations and our communities. The election told us loud and clear that there are deep concerns and a growing division in our nation and within our own neighborhoods which calls us to stop, listen, seek to understand, and find common ground that brings us together for progress. It also calls us to be strongly committed to our sector’s paramount responsibility to values-based advocacy.

Our Alliance for Strong Families and Communities network has both an incredible responsibility, and a tremendous opportunity, to demonstrate the larger role and value of our sector in society as we ultimately build the human potential of all people and realize our shared vision for a healthy and equitable society.

Over this past year, our network engaged in a national dialogue that led to a refined strategic action plan for the Alliance. Last night I thought, how did we know how well our work this past year would position us for today? Our network pinpointed equity and opportunity for all people as the ultimate cause for which we strive. We have committed ourselves to be a strong strategic action network that not only supports each other, but also one that shares a core set of principles and values that will guide us well as we analyze federal proposals and mobilize our network for real influence.

Your active participation in the Alliance—your national organization—as well as working together as a national strategic action network matters now more than ever as we navigate and lead during this historic time in our nation.

As we announced last month, beginning in December, we start our work with the network to crystalize a shared values based policy agenda. I truly hope that when we announce the many opportunities to participate, that you will do so.

Today, we’ve created an opportunity for you to share your questions, thoughts, or insights on the election with your fellow Alliance members through our network’s online collaboration portal myAlliance.

To participate, learn more about myAlliance or log in to myAlliance if you have already set up an account.

As a strategic action network fueled by our members, our partners, and our great Alliance staff, we must be unwavering in our work together to continue to demonstrate the knowledge, excellence, and imperative of this great sector. Also to work together across party lines and to double down on our commitment to be a strong and united voice for all people in America.

Every day you see and experience, through the lives of the children, adults, and families you serve and engage, their amazing potential, resilience, and goodness. I do not pretend to have a crystal ball, and I refuse to look forward through the eyes of paralysis and negativity. Yes, the election has great significance, but it is up to us to capitalize on this time of epic change and make it our greatest moment.
