Turning the Tide Program

Turning the Tide is a joint project of the Alliance for Children and Families and the national nonprofit organization Public Allies. The program recruits young, diverse professionals for employment in two-year fellowships at Alliance member organizations.

The Turning the Tide program was created in 2006 as a response to workforce-related challenges faced by the nonprofit human service sector. These obstacles include:

  • A shortage of qualified, up-and-coming human service leaders
  • Lack of interest in the human service sector among young, talented individuals
  • The need for increased emphasis on succession planning

Alliance members that participate in the program benefit from:

  • Time and cost savings related to human resources recruitment
  • Access to a pool of highly motivated individuals with a demonstrated mission-based purpose

Turning the Tide fellows benefit from:

  • Professional and leadership development opportunities offered by Public Allies
  • Career experience and exploration
  • A potential permanent job with the Alliance member organization
