Connect with the Public Policy Office

The joint public policy office of the Alliance for Children and Families and United Neighborhood Centers of America (UNCA) provides several resources to keep members and the public up-to-date about federal policy news and timely legislative updates.

The Washington Insider is the primary public communication vehicle. This blog provides timely updates and information related to:

  • Child welfare
  • Federal budget issues
  • Health policies, including health care reform
  • Nonprofit sector issues
  • Residential issues
  • Therapeutic foster care 

Policy Alerts by E-Mail

Alliance members and the public may subscribe to any of the public policy office’s e-mail lists to receive timely updates about specific federal policy areas:

  • Washington Insider. Federal public policy issues of broad interest to child welfare organizations.
  • Building Neighborhoods. Updates about federal place-based initiatives, including Promise Neighborhoods, Choice Neighborhoods, and Full Service Community Schools.
  • Washington Insider Newsletter. Will cover new legislative and regulatory activity, empirical reports and advocacy resources you can use, and offer ways to engage in the policy making process.

Email lists are for announcements only. There is no discussion. Most content is news-oriented, although sign-on letters and action alerts may be disseminated at times. Typical email frequency ranges from one to four emails per month.

Neighborhood Policy Blog

In addition its main blog, Washington Insider, the Alliance public policy office publishes Buildings Neighborhoods.

This blog is specific to federal urban policy issues. It focuses on President Barack Obama’s Promise Neighborhoods initiative and similar state and local place-based efforts.
