Today’s social and economic challenges, ranging from the impact of COVID-19 to the longstanding systemic and generational racism, are deeply connected to causes that Alliance for Strong Families and Communities members are working to address. Tackling the complex barriers to socioeconomic mobility (SEM) requires thoughtful and sustained strategies, which is why the Alliance is working to identify opportunities for collective action that are grounded in racial equity and multigenerational approaches to family and community success.
In July 2020, the Alliance hosted a series of Community Conversations with community leaders across the country including staff at community-based organizations; neighborhood residents; and partners in public agencies, schools, and health care settings. Leaders gathered virtually to share strategies, successes, and challenges in supporting SEM in their communities. These white papers share insights from these conversations.
The first case study explores current thinking about the multi-system strategies that are required to support SEM for families and communities, and the pathways that organizations are using to navigate this challenging environment. The second paper considers the implications of the pandemic on short-term and long-term priorities for families and communities; and the opportunities and challenges that organizational leaders see ahead. The third paper offers strategies and practical suggests for organizations working to ensure that their social and economic mobility approach also advances equity.
These three white papers are the result of the insights shared from the July 2020 Community Conversations. Download today!
