The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities is pleased that, in voting down the “skinny repeal” of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the U.S. Senate made it so that Congress can return to regular order and lead a process that will ensure that our country has a health care system that works for all.
We are encouraged by statements from Sens. John McCain and Chuck Schumer and governors across the country calling for a transparent, bi-partisan process and imploring both parties to achieve the end result of a health care system that provides access to affordable, preventive, fully integrated health care and addresses the social and economic determinants of health. This will not only bend the health care cost curve downward over time and achieve better health and economic productivity, it will also create a more front-end and preventive health and human services delivery system. All of these goals are within our country’s reach if the solutions going forward are guided by data, research, and science.
The Alliance strategic action network builds, restores, and maintains the well-being of children, individuals, seniors, families, and communities. Fostering the ability for every individual to achieve their full potential is essential to thriving communities and a vibrant economy. One of the building blocks of human potential is optimal health. The Alliance network is committed to bringing its knowledge, innovations, and values to form a generative partnership with Congress to craft a bill that results in improved health outcomes, greater cost savings, and better integration of public and private systems of support. We can—and we must—so that we improve the lives and health of all people in America.
