Given the emergence of an interconnected and global society, building organizational capacity for advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion is more critical than ever. Ensuring all people feel valued at work and contribute to inclusive workplace cultures is an important strategy for achieving a healthy, productive, and peaceful society in which all people can participate and reach their full potential.

During these 1.5-day workshops presented by the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities and FEI Behavioral Health, participants will explore their relationships with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in a safe environment and create EDI action plans for their organizations.

Because advancing EDI requires more than just basic knowledge and the will to improve, presenters will help participants understand their own biases as well as the role of historical discrimination, non-inclusive behavioral actions, and culture in creating an unjust society.

The workshop will include learning, facilitated discussion, and dedicated planning time. In addition to learning about core concepts, participants will put ideas into action with a hands-on, facilitated planning session.

Unlike many other trainings, participants will immediately be able to apply their learning by working on action plans for advancing their organizational goals in EDI. As such, we recommend that organizations send their EDI working groups to this gathering, along with with their current EDI plans and challenges.

Learning Objectives

  • Define EDI through history, legislation, data, and experiences
  • Understand the benefits of EDI for the workplace and beyond
  • Determine how biases, racism, and incivility create barriers to building an EDI-enriched workplace culture
  • Increase their demonstration related to systems change for more equitable outcomes at the organizational and community levels
  • Deepen knowledge of and practice applying the principles and practices of EDI
  • Increase organizational capacity to attract, develop and retain leadership talent and advance the knowledge base in the sector and beyond
