FEI Behavioral Health, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities’ social enterprise, is hosting a comprehensive crisis management training for behavioral health professionals interested in joining our crisis responder network. This training is ideal for affiliates in FEI’s employee assistance program provider network interested in receiving additional compensation by providing support to individuals affected by crisis events.
FEI is an international leader in crisis management services and regularly recruits trauma specialists to join our crisis responder network. Crisis responders participate in short-term contract work in response to mass casualty events such as natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and aviation accidents.
To become part of the network, individuals must be trained by FEI and will be required to attend the Crisis Management Training. Those who are trained become eligible to earn up to eight continuing education units (CEUs). There is an additional $15 application fee with Bellevue when applying for the CEUs.
- Those actively deployed in support will be compensated an hourly rate ranging from $75-$90 per hour depending on the level of clinical care provided as requested by the customer
- FEI provides the option to work remotely through our Virtual Contact Center (VCC)
Those trained will have the ability to join the following roles:
Family Assistance Representative (FAR)
Role: Provide direct services and logistical support on site to survivors, survivor families, and victim families affected by a mass casualty event. The support is basic psychological first aid and includes providing information, making travel and lodging arrangements, and lending emotional support. This work is supportive rather than clinical in nature.
Credentials: A FAR must be a master's-level or above health professional with at least two years post master's experience and have a state license in their discipline.
Required Training: FEI's eight-hour Crisis Management Training for Responders. The training is split into two sessions. Both sessions must be completed for course completion.
Crisis Support Coordinator (CSC)
Role: Provide support, crisis intervention, group, and organizational consultation for FEI customers.
Credentials: A CSC must be a master’s-level or above behavioral health professional and hold a state license or certificate in a behavioral health discipline. A CSC must also be trained and/or have experience in conducting individual and group interventions following catastrophic events.
Required Training: FEI’s eight-hour Crisis Management Training for Responders. The training is split into two sessions. Both sessions must be completed for course completion.
Family Information Counselor (FIC) – remote option
Role: Support the emergency inquiry line during a crisis, provide critical first contact to families and individuals impacted by a disaster, provide basic psychological first aide to callers, provide accurate documentation of callers’ information and identifying needs, and provide identified resources and updates.
Credentials: Master's level or above health professional and have a state license in their discipline.
Required Training: FEI’s eight-hour Crisis Management Training for Responders. The training is split into two sessions. Both sessions must be completed for course completion. FEI VCC Training required for remote option.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities associated with Family Assistance Support (developed according to the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Legislation)

Vivian Marinelli, Psy.D.
Senior Director, Crisis Management Services
FEI Behavioral Health
Vivian Marinelli is the senior director of Crisis Management Services for FEI Behavioral Health. She holds a doctorate degree in clinical psychology and is a licensed psychologist in Wisconsin. Marinelli brings over 20 years of work experience in direct clinical services, specializing in trauma and grief counseling, to her position which focuses on assisting individuals involved in critical incidents.
Marinelli has provided support to the families and individuals directly impacted by mass casualty disasters including: Egypt Air 990, Saudi Arabian Flight 115 (hijacking), AirTransat Flight 236, Colgan Flight 3407, UPS Flight 6, 9/11 terrorist attacks, bombings in Islamabad and Jakarta, Superstorm Sandy, Boston Marathon bombings, Sikh Temple shooting, Sony data breach, and hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Irma, and Maria.
As the senior director of crisis management services, she is responsible for leading and directing a full complement of emergency support services for corporate customers including: review of existing emergency response and family assistance plans to ensure operational feasibility, consultation with customers on emergency preparedness, crisis response and family assistance issues in accordance with industry requirements, company policies and procedures, and overseeing the internal and external FEI Crisis Support Team members to ensure a high level of response capability.
Marinelli has been the principal architect in designing, developing, and continuing to oversee a highly successful team of specialists focused on supporting the critical needs of individuals, families, and communities during disasters. She is recognized as a subject matter expert in community and organizational emergency response and provides customized training for teams throughout the world.
