Position Summary
The goal of NVFS’ Career Navigation is to partner with clients to identify and pursue opportunities to improve economic stability. Navigators do this through supporting clients with career exploration, obtaining credentials and learning tools critical to finding, securing and keeping great jobs. The Career Navigator will work to reduce barriers and create opportunities for program participants to obtain gainful and stable employment. The Navigator will work one-on-one with clients to build trust, conduct career assessments, identify short-term training opportunities and work side-by-side with clients to move towards the clients’ employment goals. The Career Navigator will work closely with assigned program area’s case management team to support clients and will enjoy the comradery and collaboration of other Career Navigators who work with different programs. The MTW program is a collaboration between NVFS and Fairfax County to provide comprehensive case management and supportive services, such as Career Navigation and mental health supports, to a portfolio of families currently served in Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) units and Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV). Clients’ participation in the Moving to Work program is voluntary. This role primarily works remotely until the Agency re-opens. 20 hours/week || Pay: $21/hour In accordance with President Biden’s COVID-19 Action Plan, and as part of our continued efforts to maintain a safe workplace for employees and clients, NVFS will require all employees to be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccination or show proof of negative COVID-19 test results weekly. This policy goes into effect November 1, 2021 and this position is subject to these requirements in accordance with applicable law. Essential Job Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with known disabilities to perform the essential functions. •Conduct one-on-one job counseling sessions with clients to surface employment goals: ?Understand and assess client background, skills, interests, challenges, barriers, and current employment situation. ?Identify employment goals and create an action plan that may include relevant training opportunities ?Assist clients in job search and application process. ?Meetings with clients take place virtually, in the office or a mutually agreed upon public space, convenient for the client, such as a library or coffee shop. •Identify and pursue existing resources to aid clients in meeting their career goals and removing barriers. Examples might include but are not limited to volunteer opportunities, financial counseling and anything that increases confidence and/or social interaction. •Participate in regular team meetings with Career Navigator team as well as supervision with supervisor. •Communicate regularly and collaborate with case management team; keep them informed of clients’ progress and to provide consistent support to clients. May collaborate with other Housing teams, managers and other NVFS staff as needed. •Maintain client files in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines. •May perform other duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements: An individual may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform essential job duties. •At least 3-5 years of experience in related field such as coaching, adult education, workforce development or proven success building relationships. •Experience serving high-barrier/low income/vulnerable populations or non-English speaking and low literacy adults. This may include volunteering, internships, and/or personal lived experiences. •Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, internet virtual meeting and learning platforms required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. •Oral and written fluency in English required; bilingual language fluency in client languages (such as Spanish and/or Arabic) a plus.
