Position Summary
The NVFS Regional Housing Assistance Program (RHAP) provides services to individuals diagnosed with HIV or AIDS in the Northern Virginia Region. The NVFS Housing & Homeless Service programs work in partnership with other nonprofit organizations, Community Service Boards, Continuums of Care and County Housing and Community Development programs. These programs provide direct assistance and supportive services to support safe and stable housing for eligible households. The Career Navigator will work to reduce barriers and create opportunities for RHAP program participants to obtain gainful and stable employment. The Navigator will work one-on-one with clients to build trust, conduct career assessments, identify short-term training opportunities and work side-by-side with clients to move towards employment. All NVFS employees are expected to demonstrate the organizational values and sensitivity to the diversity of the organization’s client base. Essential Job Duties: Conduct one-on-one job counseling sessions with clients to find gainful employment: Understand and assess client background, skills, interests, challenges, barriers, and current efforts to find employment. Match client skill set with available job opportunities. Assist clients in job search and application process. Meetings with clients take place in the office or a mutually agreed upon public space, convenient for the client, such as a library or coffee shop. Identify and pursue existing resources to aid clients in meeting their career goals and removing barriers. Examples might include but are not limited to volunteer opportunities, financial counseling and anything that increases confidence and/or social interaction. Participate in regular team meetings with Career Navigator team as well as supervision with Program Director. Communicate regularly and collaborate with RHAP case management team, to keep them informed of clients’ progress, and to provide consistent support to clients. May collaborate with other Housing department management and team members, and other NVFS staff as needed. Maintain client files in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines. May perform other duties as assigned. Qualification and Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. At least two (2) years’ experience in related field such as coaching, adult education, workforce development or proven success building relationships. Experience serving high-barrier populations or non-English speaking and low literacy adults. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.
