E-Course Description

This is the first in a series of four e-courses on advancing equity. It will introduce students to the basic tenets of equity and examine social barriers and inroads to achieving it. Subsequent courses will dive deeper into the implications of equity and education, supplier side diversity, and historical trauma.

To help all children, families, and communities reach their full potential, the nonprofit sector must fully embrace the potential that exists within a framework of equity and social justice. Meaningful and lasting impact is achieved through opportunities to learn, share, and openly address diversity, equity, and inclusion beyond programs, policies, and organizational scale.

This equity e-course will teach participants the fundamentals of equity from concept to practice.

The presentations are one hour pre-recorded videos each week. Participants can view these on their own time and respond in writing to discussion questions each week. There will also be a one hour teleconference call with the cohort during week three of each session.

Kerron Norman is vice president and chief program officer at Andrus. In this role, she leads the mental health and community services divisions. Since joining ANDRUS, she has played an instrumental role in developing the organization’s work to provide professional development to human service organizations. She has expanded the school-based mental health program throughout Westchester County, enhanced child and family programs, and promoted community services using the Sanctuary Model. Norman has extensive experience in child welfare in Westchester County and New York City.

Prior to coming to ANDRUS in 2012, she was the director of child welfare for the Westchester County Department of Social Services, where she oversaw child protection, prevention, and foster care for the Yonkers, New York. She also served as deputy director of child protection for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services.

Norman has a bachelor’s from Binghamton University and a master’s in social work from Columbia University. She is a recipient of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission on Minorities Diversity Award and the Unsung Hero Award from the Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.
