Job Description
Overview Wellspring Lutheran Services seeks the talents of a Chief Operating Officer to be responsible for leadership of our Children and Family Service Division. The person selected will be a leader with demonstrated success overseeing and delivering a diverse array of child welfare and human services, will possess strong, principled leadership attributes consistent with Wellspring’s mission/vision, and will both strengthen and benefit from our collaborative, team environment. The Child and Family Division of Wellspring serves in over half of Michigan’s counties to thousands of persons each year with a budget of approximately $18M and nearly 340 staff. Wellspring also offers senior services to older people and their loved ones through its Senior Services Division which has its own COO, requiring dynamic collaboration between the Divisions. Summary Provide leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to Wellspring Lutheran Services offerings in the area of child and family welfare. This includes foster care, family preservation, residential programming, and various community based support initiatives across the state of Michigan. Responsible for strategic positioning of the child and family service portfolio in alignment with the overall strategic plan of the organization. Work closely with the CEO and other senior executive staff in a highly collaborative, interactive team environment. Ultimately responsible for nearly 350 staff, budget oversight of nearly $20M with a focus on customer service, quality outcomes, and financial performance. Responsibilities Establish and lead the child and family division leadership team in formulating policies and procedural recommendations which result in effective systems of operation Provide leadership in implementing agency mission, values, vision and strategic plan. Responsible for oversight of all programs through the development of a strong management team and continual reliance on metrics and performance data. Monitor operations to ensure quality and consistency with agency philosophy, COA/accreditation, licensing standards and professional ethics. Collaborate with the Wellspring executive team and Wellspring Lutheran Services/Child & Family Division leadership team to develop and implement new business development plans, operational infrastructure systems, and processes designed to accommodate agency growth objectives. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current treatment and service trends and participate in state and national organizations, training programs and legislative processes that maintain quality child welfare services. Share responsibilities with President and CEO to represent the agency in various forums and provide external interpretation of the agency's mission and programs to promote agency recognition, stature, support and community confidence. Coordinate preparation, implementation and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budget in coordination with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Assume responsibility in the absence of the agency Chief Executive Officer. Establish and adhere to standards, benchmarks, and goals for existing programs to assure high performance Establish programs and mechanisms to increase leadership capacity and competence within the staff, particularly direct reports. Participate with the CEO, Board, and other executive staff in development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
