2011 Alliance Public Policy Agenda
The public policy agenda for the Alliance for Children and Families and United Neighborhood Centers of America (UNCA) is annually reviewed and established by the Alliance and UNCA Public Policy Committee.
The public policy agenda guides the efforts of the Alliance and UNCA’s Washington-based office and prioritizes issues into three tiers: leadership issues, participant issues, and issues to be monitored.
Principles
The public policy agenda is formed based on three guiding principles:
- Strong families are the greatest asset of strong communities
- Populations facing the greatest need, lack of access, and disparities should be prioritized
- Strong nonprofit community-based organizations are critical to strong communities
Criteria
Issues included in the public policy agenda are prioritized into three tiers based on the following set of criteria:
- Timeliness
- Impact on member organizations and the populations they serve
- Alignment with the long-term objectives of the Alliance, UNCA, member organizations, and the nonprofit human services sector
- Substantial agreement among member organizations
- Lack of adequate attention and action by allied organizations
- Ability to achieve a meaningful policy outcome
