Village for Families & Children
Hartford, Conn.

A significant part of the Alliance for Children and Families’ 100th anniversary celebration is paying tribute to members of the Alliance and their extraordinary contributions to society. Each month throughout 2011, the Alliance will provide a snapshot of a member of the Alliance and its history.
For more than 200 years, the Village for Families & Children in Hartford, Conn. has been committed to building a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children.
With a rich history that dates back much further than that of the Alliance, the Village has emerged as a preeminent mental health/human service agency serving the Hartford region and the state of Connecticut.
From its beginning in 1809 as the Hartford Female Beneficent Society to the current vibrant community-based organization that provides behavioral health care and social services to more than 6,200 children and families in the Greater Hartford Region each year, the Village remains a premier multi-service organization.
The Village has painstakingly traced the highlights of its history. View its history on the Village website and its historical timeline to learn more.
